Funeral donation receipt: what to include (with a sample)

Updated 6 October 2026

Quick answer

A funeral donation receipt should show a receipt number, the date, the name of the deceased and the family, the donor's name, the amount in figures and words, how it was paid (cash, MoMo, bank) with the transaction reference, and the name and signature of the person who received it. Number receipts in order and record each one on the contribution list.

Why receipts matter

At many Ghanaian funerals, donors receive a printed receipt with the deceased's photo when they give, and the family appoints people to record every donation and account for it afterwards. The receipt protects the donor (proof they gave) and the family (proof of what was received).

  • Print receipts with numbers in order, and never skip or reuse one.
  • Write the same number on the contribution list.
  • For MoMo and bank donations, check the money arrived before you issue the receipt.
  • Keep the carbon copies or stubs until the family has accepted the final accounts.

Receipts without the printing

Memora sends receipts automatically. Donors who pay by MoMo submit their transaction ID and a screenshot; once you confirm it, they get an SMS receipt. Cash recorded at the funeral gets the same SMS receipt when your helper enters the donor's phone number, and you can print a receipt on a small receipt printer at the table. Every receipt is on the same list your family sees.

Questions people ask

Do I need to give receipts for funeral donations?

It isn't a legal requirement for a private family funeral, but it's customary and strongly recommended: it prevents disputes and lets donors confirm their gift was received.

What should a donation receipt say?

Receipt number, date, the deceased's name, the donor's name, the amount in figures and words, the payment method and reference, and who received it.
